San Roque, established in 1991, quickly became a premier golf resort in Sotogrande. The Old Course hosted the Spanish Open in 2005. Designed for both low and high handicap players, the resort recently underwent a multi-million euro renovation, reaffirming its status as one of Europe's top golf courses. Located in the Sierra Bermeja foothills, the undulating course features a front nine winding through cork oak forests, requiring precise driving, and a back nine with deep ravines and strategic hazards that challenge golfers. The Old course closed at the end of 2019 to allow for the complete renovation of the layout. Construction work was then carried out the following year by Atlantic Golf and Southwest Greens, with the Better Billy Bunker system installed in all the sand hazards. Tees and greens were rebuilt with bent grass, Bermuda grass was used on the fairways, and the two nines were reversed.
